On May 24, we conducted a live virtual tour where we showed all the activity we carry out for the design, development and integration of optical, optronic and optomechanical systems, customized for our customers.
The main guides were our engineers, who presented one by one the different departments, showing examples of real cases in which we work. As it was a live broadcast, the attendees had the possibility to ask their questions and talk directly with our team.
We started by getting to know the Optics Department, which is in charge of developing the designs of customized optical systems. Our optical engineer, Zaira Modroño, showed some examples of current designs we are working on, all very diverse, as we serve companies from different industries, from medicine to defense or space.
Zaira explained that at Ase Optics we work with Zemax and Code V software packages not only to design and optimize the systems, but also to perform thermal and tolerance studies, as well as stray light analysis which, coupled with short series production, results in each design being unique, which involves a lot of research and innovation.
“The Ase Optics Tour has been a great opportunity not only to showcase our facilities and capabilities as a company, but also to meet the people behind each successful project.”
Zaira Madroño, optical engineer
Jorge Oriol also participated in the visit as Chief Mechanical Engineer of the Mechanical Engineering Department, where they are in charge of working side by side with the optical design team to find the solution that best suits the optical design requirements and, at the same time, the customer’s requirements. Because at ASE we develop mechanical designs from scratch to deliver fully integrated systems that include optics, optomechanics and electronics.
In addition, they are also in charge of preparing the production documentation, which includes: component drawings (both optical and mechanical), assembly drawings, assembly procedures…
“It has been a great opportunity for us, not only to showcase our capabilities, but also to meet other companies in the same application area with whom to collaborate and share points of interest.”
Jorge Oriol, Head of Optical Engineering Department
This tour also included a visit to the laboratories, where we turned into reality all the conceptual work done by the engineering, optical and mechanical design departments.
Thomas Siegel, RD manager, showed us the main laboratory and the clean area, used for critical assemblies and optical assembly of multiple optical elements and systems, as well as the assembly and characterization area for electro-opto-mechanical systems.
Finally, we visited the optical characterization laboratory, a place that is distinguished from the previous ones by the notable lack of external light and that is used for the measurement and characterization of optical systems.
“ASE’s laboratories: the place where designs come to life”.
Thomas Siegel, RD Director
After the experience we have been able to share, we want to thank all those who participated and attended the tour, because finally, we were able to meet and see each other again. And also to EPIC – EUROPEAN PHOTONICS INDUSTRY CONSORTIUM, for organizing, preparing and guiding this activity, which allowed us to get in touch again with customers and colleagues in the sector.
