Driving Innovation in the Space Sector

ASE, in collaboration with other companies, is proud to participate in TRATASAT, a pioneering initiative funded by the European Union’s Next Generation EU program that seeks to revolutionize the space industry through the development of sustainable surface treatments for satellites.

 

ADVANCING A MORE RELIABLE AND SUSTAINABLE SPACE RACE BY DEVELOPING TREATMENTS THAT ENSURE HIGH-QUALITY OBSERVATIONS AND EFFICIENT COMMUNICATION (TRATASAT)

Why TRATASAT?

The growing demand for satellite services requires more efficient and durable solutions. TRATASAT addresses this need by researching innovative surface treatments that:

  • Improve observation quality: By reducing stray light and optimizing data transmission.
  • Increase satellite lifespan: Through anti-multipactor and anti-PIN coatings, and mitigation of tin whiskers.
  • Promote sustainability: By using more environmentally friendly materials and manufacturing processes.

An ambitious project, funded by the EU

TRATASAT is an ambitious project backed by the European Union’s Next Generation EU funds. This funding will accelerate the research and development of new technologies for the space sector, contributing to economic recovery and job creation in Europe.

TRATASAT is a collaborative project that brings together a consortium of renowned companies and research centers. Chemplate Materials, as the project coordinator, leads this consortium, bringing its extensive experience in the development of advanced materials. ASE, in turn, contributes its expertise in the design and manufacture of optical components for the space industry.

The role of ASE

As a key partner in the project, ASE will:

  • Design and manufacture a state-of-the-art optical system: We will develop a highly precise optical system on which the new surface treatments will be applied.
  • Simulation and optimization: We will use simulation tools to evaluate the optical performance of the system and select the most suitable treatments.
  • Testing and validation: We will conduct a series of rigorous tests to ensure that the system meets the most demanding standards of the space industry.

Our goal is to demonstrate the feasibility of these new treatments and contribute to the creation of a more sustainable and efficient space industry.
