Optimization of the optical system of a video laryngoscope

Prodol Meditec, a medical technology company, needed to improve the image quality of its intubation device, Airtraq, a video laryngoscope that allows live visualization of the glottis. Prodol Meditec needed an improvement in the design of the optical system to obtain clear and accurate diagnoses.

Design challenges – our work in optical design

The housing requirements were strict, as the system had to be ergonomically compatible with the characteristics of this area of the human body (respiratory tract). ASE Optics optimized the optical system to obtain quality images in both direct view and digital camera modes.

In collaboration with Prodol Meditec’s engineering team, our optical engineers translated your requirements into concrete specifications for the optical design.

Results

• Improved resolution by an order of magnitude.
• 44% improvement in viewing angle width.
• Greater ease of use during the intubation process.
