Microscope objectives: design, development and series production
Our customer needed a custom microscope objective, optimized to operate at a wavelength of 405 nm. Our optical engineers reviewed the initial requirements and all information about the overall system performance and, together with the customer, established the final specifications that the system had to meet (parameters and values).
ASE Optics performed a preliminary design based on previous knowledge and experience in optical design for the development and manufacturing of custom microscope objectives and taking into account the desired specifications and requirements provided by the customer.
After several iterations, ASE Optics provided a preliminary design that met the nominal design requirements. Some of the main specifications were:
- NA 0,5
- EFL 3,6 mm
- Total length 19 mm
- Telecentricity
- Entrance pupil position: 3,56 mm from the first vertex
- Posterior focal plane: 4.01 mm from the first vertex
ASE Optics also evaluated the performance of the system at 405 nm, to provide the customer with realistic performance data. We suggested to the customer to consider some modifications to some parameters, in order to make the microscope objective cost efficient in further mass production.
The customer accepted these modifications, as they did not affect the quality of the system, satisfied that the solution offered balanced all aspects important to their project and business: quality, technical and optical performance, cost, delivery time and manufacturability.
Scope of work
Our optical engineers have designed and developed a robust system that operates with almost limited diffraction over the entire field, always with mass production in mind. The system had to ensure durability in operation compatible with 405 nm illumination. And LIDT requirements were taken into account to obtain a lens compatible with this requirement.
