Poster Presentation at the International Conference on Space Optics

ASE is proud to announce the successful presentation of our paper, “Fabrication and characterization of a SWIR objective lens for the earth observation camera DRAGO-2,” at the 15th edition of the International Conference on Space Optics (ICSO) 2024.

Our paper showcased the groundbreaking technology behind DRAGO-2, a cutting-edge shortwave infrared (SWIR) camera designed for Earth observation. This innovative camera, which is currently in orbit, offers exceptional performance and reliability for small satellite missions and much better images than its predecessor DRAGO-1.

The DRAGO-2 camera features a SWIR objective lens with a refractive configuration, resulting in a compact and lightweight design that is ideal for Cubesat applications. The lens offers low distortion and high transmission, and it is passively athermalized for operation between -20°C and 60°C without the need for refocusing in a vacuum environment. Additionally, it provides high contrast at Nyquist frequency. The optomechanical design includes four spherical elements with materials chosen for high transmission and colour correction.

This achievement highlights ASE’s expertise and commitment to developing innovative solutions for space applications. Indeed, the superior characteristics of the lens enable DRAGO-2 to capture high-resolution images of the Earth’s surface, providing valuable data for various applications.
