International Symposium on Fusion Nuclear Technology (ISFNT)

Paloma Matia, optical engineer at ASE Optics, will give a poster presentation entitled: “Technology trade-off for remote lithium jet thickness monitoring system” at the International Symposium on Fusion Nuclear Technology (ISFNT) event on the DONES-FLUX project for IFMIF-DONES (CDTI Missions MIP-20221017), in which a lithium foil thickness monitoring system is being developed. The system will be designed to perform live 3D measurements with a depth resolution of 0.1 mm over the flowing lithium foil area of IFMIF-DONES of about 100 cm2. It will be used as part of the active control of the lithium foil flow parameters and the IFMIF-DONES interlocking system. The technology will be compatible with the applicable environmental conditions of radiation, vacuum and temperature, and with the applicable geometric restrictions of IFMIF-DONES. In these early design phases, a technology trade-off is presented for this measurement system that will be used to guide the design to TRL4 by the end of 2024.
